Overview

The Responsible Care Management System (RCMS®) is the chemical industry’s world-class Safety, Security, Health and Environmental performance improvement initiative. For more than 20 years, the Responsible Care program has been a core attribute of the American Chemistry Council (ACC). Responsible Care companies are industry performance leaders, bound together by a commitment to address challenges and continuously improve performance of the chemical industry as a whole.

Responsible Care is a commitment to:

  • Improve SSHE performance for facility processes and for our products throughout their life cycles
  • Use resources efficiently
  • Engage with stakeholders
  • Report on progress, openly and transparently
  • Effectively manage chemical products to continue to innovate and contribute to economic growth

The Responsible Care ethic helps us to operate safely, profitably and with due care for future generations, and is guided by a set of principles and codes of practice. Its ethics and Guiding Principles encourage us to lead the way for safer and more environmentally friendly processes. Through the sharing of information and a rigorous system of procedures, checklists, performance indicators and third-party verification, RCMS drives us to set goals that enable us to demonstrate how our SSHE performance improves over the years.
